Re: The Thing prequel trailer
So its actually going to come out after being plagued with "issues" to put it nicely. If that movies first 15 minutes takes place aboard a space ship with an alien crew of specimen hunters realizing one of their captures has escaped im going to punch someone.

Re: The Thing prequel trailer
Here's a more direct link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KFrrgkRmSI So it's a prequel to The Thing called The Thing? Looks more like a rehash to me. In this trailer alone I spotted several elements lifted directly from Carpenter's movie. |

Ha ha - a prequal that looks like a remake. I'll still go see it though. Love the original!

Re: The Thing prequel trailer
I don't dislike remakes, sequels, or even prequels. I will probably go see it, and probably like it, but to me part of what made John Carpenter's version so good was the excellent performance by Kurt Russell. Keith David was very good too. I just dont see them recapturing that. It would be like remaking Casablanca. They might make a good movie, but who could ever really be as good as Bogart?

Re: The Thing prequel trailer
The one thing that will wreck this is any post 1981 technology. I want to be able to watch this movie and the John Carpenter one back to back with no discrepancies. Walkman Radio OK, Ipod NO.

Re: The Thing prequel trailer
Yes it is supposed to be a movie about what happened to the Norwegians before there were only two left chasing the dog/thing at the beginning of the '82 film.
I spotted the dog chewing through the fence which I felt was too much of a ripoff rather than a nod to the first film (unless that's the thing trying to chew through the fence). Otherwise if it looks like the first film well... What happened at the American camp happened at the Norwegian camp first- so of course the events of the two movies are going to be similar. I'm a big fan of The Thing '82, and the original short story "Who Goes There?". I'll watch this. ![]() Kevin |

The original movie didn't review very well, or make much money. I'm willing to give this one a chance. Even if they dont look or sound particulary Swedish........er... Norwegian. |

Re: The Thing prequel trailer
I just want one thing from this film and thats to have the ending of this film lead right into the Carpenter one and thats to have them hunting the dog at the end.
Regardless though I'll see this film anyways cause I'm a big fan of the Carpenter one |

Re: The Thing prequel trailer
I think the majority of them are Norwegian - in fact, I think it's subtitled:

Re: The Thing prequel trailer
Trailer does not look bad at all. I've been waiting to see, well anything on this film for a very long time. I hope that they get it right, as was stated above. Keep with the period. I'm hoping that they have done something that will play well with Carpenter's version.

Re: The Thing prequel trailer
^Great catch Jeyl! I'll have to pop in my Thing DVD, but if memory serves wasn't the orignal actor related to Goldie Hawn? I know Russell says something about it on the Director's commentary.
I'm hoping that they also pay homage to "Who Goes There" by having a three eyed alien in the ice block. Last edited by MooCriket; 07-14-2011 at 07:29 PM. |
