Re: The Thing prequel

I wonder if there will be an alternate/unrated/director's cut of the film when it hits BluRay. If there's meaningful content to be found, I'd like to see it.

Re: The Thing prequel

I saw it,it's a good film and gives a pretty good idea of what happened before the original one.

As far as how sneaky it was after this-consider it's been encased in ice for, what? 10,000 years? I'd expect it to be just a bit cranky, wouldn't you? by the time it reached base #31 I'd think it'd calm down a bit.

"They thawed it out, it woke up, probably not in the best of moods," MacReady, John Carpenter's "The Thing."

Still prefer Bottin's version. The tongue is stretched, so it looks like it is either melting apart or replicating. Was never explained if the thing can make multiple copies of the same organism. I'm thinking no, because then it could just spawn off a whole army and take over the camp.

I'm sure that's not the case. Even though we don't understand it's biology well, any living being that grows must have energy for cells to divide and the materials to make new cells, ie food. The rate that the creature changes must use a HELL of a lot of energy to do the things it does. Maybe that's why it changes form at times that are inopportune for it as well, like when it was about to escape aboard the helicopter. It was forced to get new food or die.

Re: The Thing prequel

There should be an official coffee table book by Rob Bottin and the creative team behind the '82 creature to describe their version of the biology, history and little inside tidbits of the how's and why's with rare/personal photos. I'd certainly buy it.

One of the best lines in the movie if you'd ask me.

Probably the only line that best described what happened at the Norwegian camp (which, as we see in the prequel, is probably more than true).

True, when they mentioned the prequel I was hoping to have a similar experience (a sneaky predator systematically killing the cast off and assimilating them).

But after seeing the new movie I did some logical thinking and came to the conclusion that considering circumstances they got it's behavior fairly right, the thing was frozen in a block for an considerable amount of time only to be shaken up on some (presumably) strange distant world by weird little fleshy bags.

In my own vision I considered how I'd feel after sleeping for a week and then getting woken up by a cold shower, so I can't blame it for going on a rampage followed by business as usual.

While I thought the hand-thing was a little lame...I loved the hatchet placement that rolled into the Carpenter Original

Re: The Thing prequel

Ooo. I just remembered something.

Spoiler:
The thing can't replicate non-organic matter. Makes complete sense. The Thing doesn't understand why we have stuff like ear rings or fillings so it just spits it all out. What does this all mean? Childs is NOT A THING at the end of the original. He still has his ear ring! You can see it clear as day when he turns his head and says "Fire's got the temperature up all over the camp."

Also, the DVD/BluRay will come with deleted scenes so here's hoping for the scene showing our hero cutting both wrists and throat in record time. My money is still on the fact that he killed himself because of the annoying Universal Studios attendees going through the theme event.

Re: The Thing prequel

I don't know if anyone has already posted this, but here is an FX reel from ADI - the group that did the monster effects in the new film. I haven't seen it yet, and read that the final film didn't live up to the hype. But I am impressed with the work that this group did on the sculptures.

That being said, this reel does contain spoilers of what the creatures forms look like in the film. Many of them are only half built so that they could be composited with CG elements.

Re: The Thing prequel

I was greatly dissapointed with the Prequel. But found that it was good to get a kick from of the related scenes like the Helicopter at the end. I mean, that was my only highlight.

But, i'm sure us fans say we could of made it better for a few million. =]
