Re: The Thing prequel trailer
The tag line should have read -
"Mary Elizabeth Winsted is the warmest place to hide" CGI or not - I would have been there. |

Re: The Thing prequel trailer
Yikes, I saw a trailer for this at least year's NY ComicCon many months ago. Someone mentioned the production had "troubles." Any details?
I'm old school and greatly prefer the Howard Hawks original (an all0-time fav). Don't much care for the JC version, as much as I like Kurt Russell. The last time I saw it I thought it was just a gorefest. Eye of the beholder. |

FX, main issues. The proper people were in place early on then quickly pushed aside for a larger shop, the ball was dropped, movie delayed so problems could be solved digitally. |

Re: The Thing prequel trailer
I remember seeing the original Thing Trailer when I was around 11 years old (maybe 12), it was played before Firefox. It blew me away, I saw the film on Video some years later. It blew me away.
Forget about Russell, it had a great cast through and through, great dialogue brilliant acting and totally believable characters. The special effects where way ahead of there time and still play well today, in fact I'm gong to watch it again right now. Its still one of my fav movies and I never grow tired of it. With the new film I very much doubt it will have any of the above, I will see it and I am looking forward to being surprised, not expecting it though. Like others here I believe CGI will destroy the movie, like it does most these days. If they do pull it off then a massive hats off to them as its a very tall order in my book. The Thing is a classic movie through and through and with a classic JC soundtrack to boot. I do hope its a good film, benefit of the doubt will be my thought from now on since I've seen the new trailer. I bet its better than the usual horror tosh thats around these day. |

Re: The Thing prequel
More like a "Vanilla" review. I'm okay with it though. I was not expecting this prequel to really add much to the story, and I am fine with knowing what happens in the Norwegian camp.

Re: The Thing prequel
As long as it links the two well, I'll be happy. My hope is a boxset when the prequel hits Blu-ray, and a strong showing from this film makes that all the more possible.

Re: The Thing prequel
I will be seeing this, I just hope the CGI is as least as good as the puppies in the first movie. I hate wen a movie made in 2011 looks worse then a movie made before CGI.

Yeah, so I can have THREE discs of Carpenter's The Thing. Bastages actually had the stones to release it on blu-ray without any of the bonus material featured on the DVD. |

Loved the Howard Hawks' original, loved Carpenters version (more accurate to the original story), hope I can love this one too.

Re: The Thing prequel
That sucks, I had no idea. I'm always cautious about buying older films on Blu-ray because I've seen a few that just looked terrible. Won't stop me from picking up the Star Wars saga though.

Re: The Thing prequel
Get the UK version of The Thing on bluray. I don't own it (yet) but I believe it has the dvd extras included that were cut from the US bluray. And it's Region Free.

Re: The Thing prequel
While the trailer looks okayish, the clips of the characters simply repeating the same realisations and discoveries as the chaps in the first movie do make the film a bit of a yawnsome prospect. I know I'll just be going 'ho-hum' and replaying in my mind Blair staring grimly into his 80s computer model of 'thing-spread'. Not happy with shoving a non-Norwegian lead into it, either - and a Ripley rip-off to boot. Suppose there's the possibility of FX eye candy ( though matching Bottin is one tall order), and visceral action and horror. But as a story it's already been told, and this prequel smells from here of 'hey, let's put another ten chumps through the grinder and watch them get massacred.'
