Thanks Tony! Yeah. I've been kicking this idea around long enough and need to just make it.

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
I don't know how flexible it would be but you could try one of those bodypart casting kits and use silicone or latex, with a wire armature, to cast the hand instead of plaster.

A hand huh...well, if you want a toe... I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me.
Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon... with nail polish. So if you change your mind....I can get you a toe

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
![]() I have no doubt. A toe I don't need. Here's the costume idea: A regular average Joe kind of guy in a dirtied grey jumpsuit/overalls with a custom logo patch on the breast with a stylized image of Cloud City and the text: CLOUD CITY HVAC MAINTENANCE. He has a leather toolbelt loaded down with tools. Hanging clipped to his belt is a TESB Luke lightsaber with Luke's grisly, mummifed, monkey's paw-esque hand still clutching the hilt.

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
Have you seen one of these? Maybe way off the mark for what you want since it clearly doesn't look lika a real hand but it has some good movement. Hit the switch and all fingers and thumb move.

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
You need to check some lifecasting sites.
As ramirez said, pretty much, You could get some Alginate and plaster bandage and cast up your, or someone elses hand, so you have the negative, then cast from the nagative with silicone skin, and a foam core with a wire armature. Paint it, and hey presto!! I get my gear from here http://www.tomps.com/ there are loads of casting sites online or even on youtube. If the worst comes to the worst, you could commision someone to make one for you!? I know some people are kinda scared about casting things, I certainly was hahaha! Hope this helps you. Great idea by the way!!! |

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
for the right price i can ...acquire... a hand for you by tomorrow.
does it really need to me articulated? if it's to be attached to the saber hilt why not use a static cast? |

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
I've heard Mark Hamill was about 5'6". You could cast my hand if you needed to.

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
I have never cast anything. I've been more than intrigued by it, but have never seen it done, so am a bit wary of trying it myself without a little guidance.
I'm sure it's something that you learn and do once and then it's easy. I just have never had the opportunity to learn it. A static hand molded in the right pose would be fine, it would not need to be poseable, I just noted that so I could make sure it would wrap around the saber hilt. |

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
Ideally, I would also like it a whithered and drawn, almost mummified looking, as if dried out from time sitting in the air shaft.

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
I've made monkey's paws and mummified hands in the past. A pretty easy way is to get a cheap bucky skeleton hand and then build up mummified flesh on top of it with tissue paper (or kitchen towels) brushed down with PVA (Elmers) glue. It dries nice and wrinkly and paints up great if you give it some drybrush work.

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
You're in luck, as it's nearly Halloween and all the stores are stocking their seasonal wares. Look for a product called a "Crawling Arm" by a company called Gemmy ( http://www.gemmy.com ).
If you strip the latex/rubber hand off the inner mechanics, you basically have a hollow hand. Just create a wire armature wrapped with some foam padding, and that should work well. Hope that helps. |

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
Some joke shops have hands that you strap under the car or out from the trunk...

Re: Looking for realistic human hand
How did your search for a hand turn out?
I just got a pair of latex hands for my Highlander Ramirez from ebay. One is a knife wielder hand, to hold his katana, the other is just a standard open hand. Last edited by Ramirez; 11-21-2010 at 04:06 PM. |
