Yeah, same with the one I did, the mag was decorative, but it fires well with a standard mag. v 2.0 will shoot at least a few rounds as if it was a 6 round mini mag

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!

Hi folks,

finally found the link to this forum again after some computer problems.

Since my last (and first) post showing you my Mad Max-style Maverick I have finished two more guns I would like to show you:

First is a steampunk NiteFinder EX-3 I did for a little contest on a german NERF forum.

To create the steampunk look I aimed for I did some physical modifications by building two small pressure tanks in place of the original dart holder. The NERF logos at the top of the gun were covered with 2 small LEGO satellite dishes, creating the main combustion chamber of the gun. Finally I bend some 6mm polystyrol rod to create the pipes running from the small pressure tanks to the combustion chamber.

The rest is painting - I tried to achieve a look of some root wood on the handle but it didn't turn out the way I wanted. Anyways, it looks not too bad. The main parts of the gun I painted bronze and then "engraved" some areas by painting thin black lines in various arcs onto the bronze. Thin silver reflection lines completed the engraving.

The second gun is a sawed-off BuzzBee Double Shot (aka Boomstick ). As with my Maverick I aimed for a weathered look, with rust on the metal parts. To achieve the boomstick look I cut off the barrels and the stock, removing the big, bulging end. I then resculpted the handle using milliput and inserted a small brass tube through which the strings to load the gun now run. I am still thinking about a final way to fit these strings with the overall look, right now I just let them hang there.

Hope you like my latest dartblaster paintjobs.

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!

So I read this entire thread from start to finish last night.
Been a fan of JA's stuff for a while and actually got kicked here looking for Terra Nova screen shots.
I just started up with Nerf again after a dark age (dormant period in lego speak). Totally stoked to have found this place!
I call this combo the ConFlex:

The recon has the OMW Massacre kit and is a beast.
The reflex has the standard AR removal and spring stretch.
Now I just need to build a custom box for these bad boys. . . .

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!

This has surely been answered somewhere in this thread: how do you guys create the chipped paint effect? And the weathered color/metal effect?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!

Jarod, from what I've read (haven't tried this effect myself yet) quite a few people create the chipped effect by actually painting it on.

The color you use is going to depend on what colors the rest of the gun is, of course, but something lighter within the same color family can work. Or something metallic, if the gun in question would have been "made" of metal (even though these things are plastic.)

One simple weathering method is to use a watered down acrylic paint (usually black or brown, or a mix) brushed or wiped on, and then mostly wiped off. That leaves a bit of color in grooves and around raised areas, and makes them look like they've picked up grime over time.

Metal effects can be created by painting the whole gun a particular color, and then hitting the high places with something like Rub 'n Buff. It's a wax-based metallic, so a bit of it here and there can make the whole thing look more metallic.

If these weren't what you meant, please do clarify. And if you can link to specific things you've seen in this thread that you're asking about, that might shed some light.

I was just wondering if anyone ever tried building a nerfgun around an actual blank firing automatic pistol liek this one:

Steampunk styles..

Alien gun, kinda has a Needler look to it

Two of the three Mass Effect themed guns I'm doing for a photo

Mass Effect Alternate PJ

Small film prop, didn't require the logos being removed...

I have some bigger stuff on the way, these were some that I worked on in the free time between painting. Thanks for checking them out and let me know if you have anything you're needing for Halloween
